Town Center Kehrsatz (1st Prize)

According to the topographical situation of Kehrsatz, the urban development concept provides for a differentiation between the inner Chilchacher sub-area and the Bahnhofmatte sub-area. A moderate expansion of the village structure is planned for the inner Chilchacher. The generous landscape space is accordingly kept open. As a result, the bypass road is located on the edge of the settlement and can be optimally used in its function as a cantonal road. The new Zimmerwaldstrasse is integrated into the given topography of the landscape area. Due to the rising road alignment, new sightlines open up from the road towards the castle, the manor houses, and the new train station district. An identity-forming settlement edge emerges.

The western village entrance at Zimmerwaldstrasse is emphasized by a prominently positioned new building and a plaza area. The old Zimmerwaldstrasse is being transformed into a village street with recurring plaza situations and design elements. The historic road through the village is strengthened as a characteristic and high-quality connection and serves as an important link between the lower and upper parts of the village.

The new village entrance at Bahnhofmatte opens views towards the train station with Kehrsatz Castle in the background and enables a direct connection to the station. The station entrance is flanked by two distinctive, slightly staggered buildings. Together with the station, the adjacent open space, and the corresponding public uses on the ground floor, they form the functional core of the station. From the station, views open up to the old village center and the municipal administration in the Campagne Blumenhof.

The station square is divided into different sub-areas, creating a natural transition between the historic village center and the new Bahnhofmatte quarter.
