Town Centre and Relocation of the Station, Oberentfelden

Oberentfelden is a typical traffic- and road-centered village. Both the Wynetal-Suhrental Railway (WSB) and the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) line Lenzburg–Zofingen pass through the town center. Additionally, two cantonal roads intersect in the center. Therefore, integrated urban planning and traffic solutions are required for the development of the center.

On one hand, the WSB railway facilities need to be renovated, and the station must be made accessible with a platform length of 120 meters. On the other hand, the municipality aims to enhance the center as a meeting place, transport hub, and place to linger. This concerns pedestrian crossing and accessibility as well as the quality of the public space. Building densification can also strengthen synergies between transport and the center, while solving problems such as noise pollution and difficult wayfinding. When developing the inner area, the numerous heritage-listed buildings such as the old smithy, the church, and the Freihof must be taken into account. The preferred solution proposes shifting the WSB station northwards, creating a compact 6-meter-wide street cross-section, and building a new station building as a spatial link between Kirchplatz, the Engel ensemble, and the mill.
