The development vision for 2080 outlines the urban transformation of Dietikon, a former suburb of Zurich.

Dietikon is located in the first urban belt around Zurich, an area that is already largely built up. The qualitative transformation of a neighbourhood into an urban district within a metropolitan region must occur within a dense structural framework. This requires a solid urban structure that allows for long-term spatial, functional, and social changes. Therefore, the vision for the future does not depict a final state, but rather illustrates a possible intermediate stage for the year 2080.

The vision addresses the following key themes and elements: the urban future and the process of becoming a city, the feasibility of fundamental structures based on existing parcel patterns, an identity-shaping open space structure, and the condition of urban districts with forms of urban densification.
