To define the key direction for the third generation of the St.Gallen–Lake Constance agglomeration program, a future vision was developed as part of a preliminary study for the agglomeration program. In coordination between public transport systems and settlement development, three basic concepts were examined: 1) S-Bahn 2019 (base scenario), 2) S-Bahn Plus, and 3) Tram. Depending on the choice of public transport system, development and densification areas for the next 20 to 30 years within the agglomeration were arranged differently. The future vision represents a synthesis of the S-Bahn Plus basic concept at the overall agglomeration level and the Tram concept at the core agglomeration level (City of St.Gallen).
