Wangenstrasse–Bahnhof Plus, Dübendorf
The city of Dübendorf borders directly on the eastern city limits of Zurich and exhibits strong development dynamics. For the area along Wangenstrasse north of the train station and the adjacent neighborhoods, various urban planning issues arise in connection with the route safeguarding of the Glattalbahn extension as well as the handling of the neighboring airport site. An integrated future vision was developed to illustrate the urban, open space, and traffic development of the area between the Glatt River and the airport site.
While the Glatt River is being strengthened and enhanced as an attractive green space for local recreation, the airport curve is being developed as a new city boulevard and as the backbone of both the existing neighborhoods and the new airport innovation park. Wangenstrasse connects the existing center and the train station with the new developments at the airport curve. The train station area becomes a spatial and transport hub. In the vicinity of the station, a gradual densification is pursued based on the existing parcel and building line structure. A new traffic routing will increase attractiveness and improve connectivity between the surrounding neighborhoods.
