Urban Region Kreuzlingen-Konstanz
As part of the 5th generation agglomeration program, a vision for the future in 2040 was developed for the Kreuzlingen-Konstanz agglomeration. The aim was to coordinate urbanisation, landscape, and mobility in order to strengthen existing qualities and identify new development potential.
The vision for 2040 is based on a clear center structure in which the cross-border center of Kreuzlingen-Konstanz is further developed as a high-density urban core. While densification with good public transport connections is supported in urban areas, the focus in the surrounding cultural landscape is on careful further development based on existing structures. Key areas for action along the city axes and railway station areas have been identified in order to promote networking and diversity of use.
An essential part of the planning was the integration of the settlement development into the landscape. The green spaces in the region, especially the lake landscapes and green ridges, were strengthened as defining elements. Targeted connections between the city and the countryside are intended to ensure a high quality of life.
The mobility strategy focuses on stronger links between public transport, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and multimodal mobility hubs. The city axes serve as the structural backbone for the development of public space and transport. A cross-border coordinated strategy for parking space management and traffic control ensures the sustainable development of mobility.
The vision forms a long-term basis for the development of the agglomeration and will be further developed with each new generation of agglomeration programs. It serves as a strategic guide for spatial development and ensures continuous coordination between urbanisation, mobility and landscape.
