Regional Park Renges-Venoge, Écublens
To the west of Ecublens (core agglomeration of Lausanne), a large agglomeration park is planned. In order to define the settlement boundary and clarify the transition between landscape and urban areas, an urban design test planning was carried out.
The unstructured urban edge will be transformed into a consistent and clearly legible transition between settlement and landscape. The urban design pattern is based on the existing topography and historical path networks. Direct connections and visual corridors create a relationship with the expansive landscape park. New meeting and orientation points support the spatial and functional integration of the neighbourhoods within the broader context. Small-scale neighbourhood units strengthen the sense of community.
The site's unique position on gently sloping terrain makes it ideal for green garden-city-style quarters with new housing typologies. Stacked maisonettes enable ground-related living at high density.
A traffic-calmed “village ribbon” will help the currently isolated and barely perceptible historic village center of Renges fulfill its role as an interface between city and countryside.
