Development Plan Lake Shore Flüelen

The port area of Flüelen offers enormous potential for high-quality residential and tourism uses along the lake, thanks to the relocation of existing industrial and commercial facilities. The lakeshore development plan aims to provide strategic guidelines for this transformation process from a holistic perspective.

Planning is structured around two time horizons, aligned with major infrastructure projects: 2035, focusing on the lakeshore; 2065, featuring the new Reider railway station and the Axen railway tunnel (part of the NEAT project).

The long-term vision enables a comprehensive view and spatial positioning of the development goals. In the future, Flüelen will be shaped by two urban focal points: the area around the current station and the district surrounding the future Reider station. These hubs will be connected by Bahnhofstrasse, which acts as an urban backbone linking the lake to the railway stations.

Additionally, Bahnhofstrasse will serve as a collector road for all modes of transport and will replace the current Axenstrasse. Together with the former railway tracks, the Axenstrasse can be removed and redeveloped. In this way, Flüelen transforms from a village into a small lakeside town.
