Industrial High Rise Buildings, Herzogenbuchsee

West of the railway line, the municipality of Herzogenbuchsee is characterized by several massive silo buildings. They mark the interface between industry and agriculture and are part of the municipality’s identity. Due to their industrial use, the location, design, and placement of these tall buildings do not follow a traditional urban planning pattern.

The high-rise concept, on one hand, demonstrates how the positive attributes of a high-rise building (such as centrality, orientation, scale, identity) can be leveraged from the special existing, evolved situation through reuse or redesign, thereby creating added value for the entire neighborhood. On the other hand, settlement and design criteria are defined that are important for the appearance. In particular, for the industrially used tall buildings, the balance between spatial impact and economic significance is paramount.
