Urban Plattform Jona

Today, Jona railway station is primarily oriented towards the town center, to the east. Despite its spatial and scenic qualities, the west side currently functions as the back of the station. The “Stadtperron” project aims to transform the station area into an urban link between the surrounding neighborhoods.

The project proposes opening up the station to the west. With Grünfelsplatz as a new western entrance to Jona station and the construction of two high-rise buildings, the station district will be integrated into the urban fabric of the city. Space will be created for a variety of station-related uses—kiss-and-ride areas, short-term parking, a bike station, and a bus stop—which will help relieve pressure on the busy and constrained eastern side of the station.

The prominent end point of the “Neue Jonastrasse” axis, marked by a new plaza and two high-rises, will serve as a connecting node between the “Neue Jonastrasse” urban area and the historic town center. The center of Jona will be complemented by a distinct and future-oriented station district, offering a forward-looking mix of uses.
