Station District Lenzburg
Lenzburg railway station is a key regional transport hub. As it has reached the limits of its current capacity, the station will be expanded and the various modes of transport will be reorganised. The station area is to become not only an attractive transportation node, but also an urban hinge between neighbourhoods and a high-quality public space with a strong sense of place.
The transport infrastructures (rail and bus services) are arranged compactly, with attractive, differentiated access points from both the north and the south. Station-related functions are located on both sides, directly adjacent to the outer platforms—under the station roof and in the underground level along the tracks, with direct connections to the underpasses.
As part of the station district development, the space is framed by an urban frontage that integrates existing buildings, including the Stapferhaus art museum. Three distinct open spaces are created around the underpasses, each forming an urban connection between neighbourhoods and accentuated with architectural highlights.
The station square, clearly defined and free of private motorised traffic, forms the main entrance to the station. To the east, Langenbach Square acts as a hinge between Bahnhofstrasse and the historic old town. It has a green, landscaped character, with transport functions (turnaround point for cars, drop-off, taxis, buses, bicycles, access to the underpass and bike station) carefully integrated into the design.
The historic Villa Langenbach and its public garden will become an integral part of the space. To the west, Färber Square will be developed as a key address for the western neighbourhoods.
Around the station, a lively, dense, and mixed-use district will emerge, with active ground-floor uses and residential spaces on the upper floors.
