Les Glariers, Sierre

The "Parc des Glariers" forms the connecting element of the neighbourhood and serves as an inclusive, identity-forming and adaptable meeting place. A large, multifunctional lawn occupies the heart of the park and is complemented by natural areas, sports facilities and play areas designed for all generations. The existing car park will be integrated into this overall landscape design. The term ‘Jardin des Vignes’ refers to a landscape principle based on structure, rhythm and openness: linear hedges are reminiscent of rows of vines and form landscape compartments, complemented by a sequence of open spaces and a central lawn.

The Place des Glariers lies at the junction of the neighbourhood’s main axes and serves as the central meeting place that shapes everyday life in the neighbourhood. It is brought to life by public facilities, including a tearoom in the historic pavilion of the former campsite, as well as a neighbourhood centre and a childcare facility in the planned new building at the head of the site. Within the park, a pavilion is situated at the centre of the green space, at the junction of the main axes, forming an attractive link between the park and the school complex. It houses a dojo for the judo club, thereby bringing together sporting facilities in the immediate vicinity of the multi-purpose hall and around the new ‘Placette des Sports’. The buildable plots are deliberately arranged at the edge of the park. This leaves a large, contiguous area free for the park, whilst the development simultaneously helps to define its spatial character. Their construction can take place in stages. Some functions are therefore designed to be temporary from the outset, whilst others may remain permanent should further development not take place. The buildings are aligned with the park level; a raised ground floor compensates for the difference in level with the Chemin de Chantegrive. This creates an inviting façade facing the park, with ground-level flats.
