Urbanisation Limmattalbahn

The Limmattalbahn is the most important transport and infrastructure project in the western agglomeration of Zurich. In sections 2 and 3, the Limmattalbahn runs through the existing urban fabric of Schlieren. Major urban restructuring and densification projects are planned along the route. The area is undergoing significant transformation and is considered one of the most dynamic urban regions in Switzerland.

In addition to existing design plans and current building and zoning regulations, an urban development concept was developed for the stops Kesslerplatz, Geissweid, Wagonsfabrik, and Gasometerbrücke. The stops were adapted to the specific situations of old and new urban structures and coordinated between transport and urban development to optimize synergies. Public space is intended to support the identity of the railway and enhance orientation in a changing environment. When designing and organizing the stops, it is important to take into account the future and desired spatial situation.
