Urban Guideline Plan, Lyss

As part of a test planning process involving municipal and cantonal representatives as well as experts, the further development of the Lyss town center was examined and discussed. It was recommended to connect the urban infill development with a stable open-space framework. On one hand, the urban spaces consisting of Hauptstrasse, Bielstrasse, and the connection between Bahnhofplatz and Marktplatz should be strengthened and spatially defined. On the other hand, the Lyssbach stream, together with the heritage-worthy buildings and adjacent residential neighborhoods, forms a green backbone.

A future vision was created to test the spatial edges, volumes, and height developments through a working model, conceptual sketches, and cross-sections along the streets and squares. This resulted in qualitative guidelines and recommendations for action, which are formally regulated in the urban development plan. In this context, extensive information and participation with the local population also took place.
