Station District West, Münsingen

Münsingen is a rapidly growing municipality located along the important regional development axis between Bern and Thun. Due to its strategic location, the commercial zone on the west side of the train station is to be gradually transformed and densified into a mixed-use area. Commissioned by Losinger Marazzi and in collaboration with the municipality, an urban development concept was created as a basis for workshops with landowners. The typical building structure with narrow alleys and wide visual connections is further developed and optimized for residential and mixed uses. A crosswise open space structure creates an attractive internal network and connects the area to adjacent neighborhoods. A generous station square emerges as a point of arrival and a key address for the western part of town. A central topic was phasing: this allowed both overarching public interests (access, green space, station square) and the needs of the 20 landowners to be addressed.
