Urserntal Tourism Region
The San Gottardo Alpine region is defined by its magnificent alpine landscape. Its diversity is the region’s greatest asset and the foundation of its tourism. Traces of a thousand-year history are evident in the historic buildings of the settlements, as well as in prominent landmarks and the network of roads and paths (alpine passes). The concept sets out development goals for the various landscape typologies in the alpine region (ski arena, mountain pass landscapes, alpine environment), ensures sustainable access, and offers differentiated proposals for high-quality urban development of the villages.
For example, in the Alpine center of Andermatt, a new spa park with sports and tourism facilities is planned, connecting the Andermatt holiday village along the Reuss River with the train station. In Hospental, the location of the public transport stop will be optimized and the MGB (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn) maintenance facility will be integrated into the station area. In Realp, a base camp for alpinists will be established, operated by the local community. The historically significant station square in Göschenen will be upgraded to a tourism hub, serving MGB, SBB, PostAuto, and a new cable car to the ski arena, along with a central parking facility.
