Masterplan Belle-Croix, Villars-sur-Glâne
The area around the Belle-Croix traffic junction in the municipality of Villars-sur-Glâne is designated as an urban development zone in the Règlement communal d’urbanisme. A masterplan for the development of the area was created through a participatory process.
A major challenge in the development of the masterplan was how to address the cantonal roads that divide the site. Taking into account human scale and sight lines, the roads were carefully integrated into the concept in a way that fosters a relationship between the street as public space and the surrounding buildings. Various urban planning solutions were explored and tested in different design scenarios.
The result of these studies is a masterplan that defines the key principles for urban design, mobility, and open space—serving as the foundation for the future development of the area.
