Wallisellen Town Centre

Wallisellen railway station forms an important junction between the S-Bahn and the Glattalbahn. For this reason, the station area is considered one of the best-connected zones in the Glattal region. Accordingly, the existing center and station district of Wallisellen is under significant development pressure. On one hand, densification is to be pursued within the existing center and station neighborhood; on the other hand, the identity and unique garden city character should be preserved. New regulations (such as building setbacks and building length) have been defined, and a front garden concept has been developed. The concept demonstrates how, despite gradual structural densification, the quality of public and private open spaces can be improved and the character of the existing garden city can be maintained. Synergies between the station and the neighborhood are better utilized in this way. Retail uses and important facilities can thus be preserved in the existing local center. A new generous station square creates an attractive meeting and gathering place.
