Landstrasse, Wettingen

The Landstrasse is the linear backbone of Wettingen with a wide variety of uses. It extends over a distance of around 2.5 km from the municipal border with Baden to Würenlos. The Landstrasse serves as a place to live and work, a shopping street, and a local as well as regional traffic axis with an average daily traffic volume (DTV) of nearly 20’000 vehicles.

With a clear division into sections and urban design emphasis on important intersections, historical structures become readable again and orientation is improved. A central approach to restructuring the corridor is the “city of short distances.” Due to the good accessibility (future routing of the Limmattalbahn) and the proximity of uses and facilities, moderate densification is sought throughout the corridor. Consideration of the garden city neighborhoods located to the rear is important. The many open, green cross-connections allow views into the adjacent landscape.

With a more compact center zone, the usage density in the town center is increased. Thanks to the concentration of retail, services, and cultural uses, synergies arise, promoting an attractive, lively center. A key element is the new, expanded central square as a central meeting place and hub of the municipality.
