Cooperative Housing Im Herrlig, Zurich

The City of Zurich’s structure plan envisions urban densification in the “Im Herrlig” area that goes beyond the provisions of BZO 2016 (Zurich Building and Zoning Ordinance). It also stipulates an improvement in the public open space offering through the creation of a new public park with a reference size of 6’000m².

As part of a workshop process involving the landowner, relevant municipal departments, and an expert panel, two planning teams explored the overarching urban development principles and assessed volumetric options for the densification of the area.

In response to the growing demand for school places in Zurich-Altstetten, the densification and integration of the existing “Im Herrlig” school facility was also examined.
