Masterplan Centre of Mägenwil (1st Prize)

Mägenwil is located along the “rural development corridor” between Lenzburg and Baden and is designated in the cantonal structure plan as a regional center of development. Settlement growth is to be encouraged in well-connected areas, particularly around the train station. For the approximately 8-hectare construction gap located south of the station, an urban development concept was created.

The concept proposes relocating an existing road to optimize the parcel structure, enabling future-oriented and sustainable development. A densely planted green space with four distinctive building volumes will form the new center of Mägenwil, concentrating public and center-related uses. A new network of paths will connect the train station, village center, school, and administrative facilities, improving integration between key destinations and surrounding neighborhoods. In existing residential areas, suburban densification strategies are proposed—specifically, compact forms of ground-oriented housing.
