Working Area Löwenberg
The Löwenberg working zone extends across the municipalities of Murten and Muntelier and is considered a “strategic sector” of the canton of Fribourg. At the same time, the area has very high landscape qualities and many valuable agricultural production areas.
The area is the gateway to the Seeland and the Grosses Moos and is characterized by sustainable, ecological vegetable cultivation. Finally, the two municipalities have a general but ambitious vision for the area, with high requirements for sustainable development (climate neutrality, net zero, etc.).
The starting point for the spatial development concept ist the scenic qualitiy. The natural and cultural landscape and the Centre Löwenberg urban ensemble will be preserved in their entirety. New workplace developments will only be located in the existing commercial areas, which are currently underutilized. The existing train station will be upgraded, and the current main roads will be redesigned to create attractive street spaces for everyone. With a consistent stacking of uses, a large-scale development is proposed that is appropriate for the context.
The concept also allows for residential uses in order to take into account the principle of short distances. The factor of time plays a central role in the concept. Three large development areas will become "future zones". Development here will only take place in the long term, with very high requirements for sustainability, quality, and work plans.
