Development Line T5, Wildegg–Schinznach-Bad

This study focused on the local urban transformation of the cantonal road T5 Brugg-Aarau in the lower Aare valley (average daily traffic between 12’000 and 20’000 vehicles) as a cost-effective alternative to a bypass road. It examined which uses are possible and desirable along this heavily trafficked corridor and which building forms are best suited for these uses. A central question was how the building structure can respond to noise without turning away from the street or appearing as an alien element in the adjacent residential neighborhoods.

Furthermore, the study addressed the spatial integration of the entire corridor into the surrounding settlement area. Typical sections were defined for this purpose. Road cross-sections, speed limits, and traffic nodes were supplemented or newly developed. For the municipalities of Holderbank and Schinznach-Bad, new attractive village centers are planned that are connected to the main road. Main carriageways, public squares, occasional parallel parking, wide bike lanes, and especially generous pedestrian areas make the traffic more compatible with the settlement and make the street usable for all modes of transport.
